Good leadership begins with inspecting the leadership tools you have available. As said, if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. If your gut response to leadership situations is to “tell” people what to do, you will find that you’ll get the people you deserve (i.e. people who need “telling”).

Leadership development starts with personal development (see coaching) as you cannot lead people to places you cannot go. This is true for personal development; this is also true for leading a group or an organization. While you are developing or have developed a robust strategy (plan) you will need to ‘behave’ yourself in that direction. You seldom can ‘talk’ yourself towards a new future.
